Kyoto's famous Gion Festival is the biggest event of the city's summer. The highlight of which is a spectacular procession of elaborate yamahoko (floats) on July 17 and 24 that is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Roku Kyoto invites guests to share in the pageantry and color with an exclusive accommodation package featuring access to a private viewing space to watch the procession in comfort and style free of the crowds and the heat.

The viewing space is located inside Tsujikura, a 330-year-old Japanese paper umbrella store ideally positioned on the top floor of the Tsujikura Building on Kawaramachi-dori Street. Just north of the Shijo-Kawaramachi intersection where the iconic turning of the floats takes place, this prime vantage point affords a magnificent eye-level view of the towering floats with commentary provided by a specialist guide to enhance the experience.

Starting with check-in the day before the procession, the package includes a delicious breakfast by the renowned Wakuden ryotei restaurant while awaiting the arrival of the floats on procession day and a Japanese umbrella-making experience with Tsujikura’s expert artisans afterward. An immersive experience in age-old community traditions, artisanal beauty and Kyoto’s elegant culinary heritage, this truly special day promises profoundly rewarding insight into the very essence of the ancient city.

平安時代から千年以上続く、京都の夏の風物詩「祇園祭」。疫病退散と国家安寧を祈る古の祭礼のハイライトが、7月17日（前祭）と24日（後祭）に行われる「山鉾巡行」です。“動く美術館”とも称されるこの絢爛豪華な一大ページェントを、夏の日差しや混雑を避けてプライベートでご鑑賞いただける1泊2日の宿泊プランをご用意しました。
ご観覧場所は、四条河原町の北東に位置する創業330年の老舗和傘店「辻倉」。河原町通に面した同店ビルの上層階から、目の前を通過する美しい山鉾をガイドの解説つきでご鑑賞ください。山鉾の高さは最大25メートルに及び、迫力満点です。巡行最大の見せ場である「辻回し」(方向転換) は、地上では見られない絶好のアングルでご覧いただけます。
チェックインは山鉾巡行の前日。翌朝は山鉾の到着を待ちながら、京都を代表する名料亭「和久傳」が仕立てる朝食をご堪能ください。巡行のご観覧後は、辻倉の職人さんにご指導いただく「和傘づくり体験」のひとときを。悠久の時を越えて京の町衆が守り伝えてきた祭の伝統、古都の美意識を映す職人技や京料理の粋──。京都の精神性に奥深くふれる本プランを通して、知的好奇心を満たす特別な夏の一日をお過ごしください。

Founded in 1690, Tsujikura is the oldest surviving traditional umbrella maker and seller in Japan. Its products, individually handcrafted by the store’s artisans from bamboo and washi paper through an exacting series of more than 100 steps, have earned enduring esteem in kimono town Kyoto. Guests taking advantage of Roku Kyoto’s package will have exclusive use of the 7th floor shop space and 5th floor hands-on workshop space to watch the procession. They’ll also enjoy an introduction to the Japanese umbrella by Tsujikura’s 17th generation head, shopping time, and making their own miniature umbrella. This is a unique opportunity to explore a legacy of artisanship handed down over 300 years.

元禄3年（1690）創業の和傘専門店「辻倉」は、戦国大名浅井長政の家臣を先祖に持ち、現存する和傘店では国内最古の歴史を誇ります。国産の竹や和紙を用い、100以上の工程を経て一点ずつ仕立てられる同店の和傘は、着物の街・京都を艶やかに彩る工芸品。花街の芸舞妓さんや役者さんからも贔屓にされています。今回、同店ビルの最上階（７階）にある店舗と5階の体験スペースを、ROKU KYOTOのゲスト専用として特別に貸切にしていただきました。涼しい室内で、山鉾巡行と辻回しをゆったりとご鑑賞ください。十七代目当主のご案内による和傘鑑賞やお買いもの、人気の「姫和傘づくり体験」では、300年以上受け継がれてきた精緻な職人技をご体感いただけます。

Guests will feast on a special bento box breakfast prepared by Wakuden restaurant, a Kyoto institution established in 1870. The meal features a fittingly festive selection of vibrant delicacies showcasing seasonal ingredients. Refreshments include sake from Matsui Sake Brewery, the oldest sake maker in central Kyoto, and premium green tea from Tsubakido, venerable purveyor to Kyoto’s famous temples and shrines. An array of sweet treats by Roku Kyoto’s patissiers will be available to nibble on during the procession.

観覧会場で山鉾を待つ時間のお愉しみとして、洗練を極めた京料理のご朝食をご用意しました。明治3（1870）年創業の料亭「和久傳」が、本プランのために特別に仕立てる弁当は、旬の山海の幸を散りばめた祭礼の日にふさわしい晴れやかな献立です。お飲みものは、創業から300年を数える洛中最古の蔵元「松井酒造」の芳醇な日本酒と、京の有名社寺の御用達を務める老舗茶舗「椿堂」の香り高い日本茶をどうぞ。観覧中のおともには、ROKU KYOTOのパティシエが腕を振るう多彩なスイーツをご用意しています。
